COUNTRY HOUSE PAINTINGS

After leaving the Royal College of Art in 1992 James quickly established himself as one of the leading country house painters, combining his architectural training with his passion for landscape painting. He worked on many private commissions in the UK and abroad, including a series of paintings of  Highgrove, home of HRH The Prince of Wales. In 1998, after only a few years as a professional artist, he was selected to exhibit in the historical exhibition ‘The Artist and The Country House from the Fifteenth Century to the Present Day’ held at Sotheby’s, London. The exhibition included work by Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable and William Turner. In 1999 James published a book James Hart Dyke: Country House Painting.

Hart Dykes’ ability to capture the essence of the landscape and the fleeting effects of light and colour place him firmly among the best of the British school of ‘plein air’ painters.
